It's that time of month again! Come meet my friend Celina from Simply Collectible Crochet, as we sit here drinking our coffee, and playing with our hooks and yarn!
I will ask the questions, and Celina will tell us all about things crochet. I can't think of a better way to spend my morning!
Celina Lane: I'm delighted to “be” here!
What is the first project you ever made? When I was 9 years old, my grandmother taught me how to start and I made a chain that was about 10 feet long. To me, it was remarkable to understand I could make a project any size I wanted just experimenting with that chain.
What is your favorite crochet hook? I love Clover. I find it to be very smooth and it works best for me.
What is your favorite yarn? Right now, I am still really stuck on Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable. I've been on this yarn for a couple of years now and the versatility and drape are very nice. Also comes in such a wide variety of colorways suitable for my designs and it's easy to find in craft stores.
When did you start crocheting? Staying home after having a child was really difficult for me. The boredom drove me to crochet. Ha! (Please note that I did not say uneventful. It was an escape a few minutes every day.)
Where is your favorite place to crochet and why? We finally have a rec room this year so we have been able to set up everything that I need without having to shift things to get them out and work. With a day bed, tv, and desks, it's the perfect environment for being creative and completing projects without disturbing others.
What is your most favorite project you ever made and why? My Coraline in Minden cowl wrap is definitely my favorite! It has an intense cozy factor and works up very quickly.
What is your favorite crochet stitch? This is definitely a tough question to answer because every stitch has it's pros and cons. I can admit to getting in the groove with certain stitches like v-stitch, chevron, or shells.
What would be your crochet, dream come true? I do dream of a crochet retreat to the beach and have even started the research.
When did you know crochet was a passion of yours? Right away!
What crochet designer do you admire most? I would have to say Kim Guzman. She has worked in every aspect of the business and is not afraid to get her hands dirty when it comes to completing projects and helping others.
Do you have any advice for crocheters? The only advice I can think of at the moment is one that tends to haunt me and that is not to beat yourself up for jumping around between projects. Let that be part of the creative process. Just don't forget to go back and complete them! If for some reason you find you really do not want to complete a project, go ahead and rip it out or give it to someone who can finish it.
