Newborn Pig Hat Crochet Pattern

This Newborn Pig Hat is too cute! It's definitely my favorite pig hat. It works up super fast as it mainly uses thick yarn, and basic stitches.

13″ circumference (yarn should stretch)

5 1/4″ long from top of the hat

Materials

Super bulky weight yarn (6-super bulky)

  • light pink

Worsted weight yarn (4-medium)

  • brown

Fine weight yarn (2-fine)

  • light blue

L (8.00mm) crochet hook

D-6 (4.00mm) crochet hook

Fabric scissors

Yarn needle, to weave ends

Gauge

3 dc stitches x 2 rows is 2″

*Change the hook size to obtain the gauge.

Notes

  • (11 sts) means how many stitches you should have at the end of the row. That count does NOT include the chain.

Hat

Starting with pink yarn,

Round 1: ch 3, 7 dc in 3rd ch from hook, join in first dc of round (7 sts)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join in first dc of round (14 sts)

Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first dc of round (21 sts)

Round 4: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 4 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts* repeat * to * around, dc in next st, join in first dc of round (25 sts)

Round 5: ch 2, dc in each st around, join in first dc of round (25 sts)

Round 6: ch 1, sc in each st around, join in first sc of round (25 sts)

Earflaps (Make 2)

With light pink yarn,

Row 1: ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 sts, turn ( sts)

Row 2: ch 1, sc dec 2 times, turn ( sts)

Row 3: ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, turn ( sts)

Row 4: ch 1, sc dec, ch 12, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in each st, slst to tip of earflap, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

  1. with light pink yarn and a yarn needle
  2. attach earflap to side of hat so it covers an ear

Ears (Make 2)

With light pink yarn,

Row 1: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 sts, turn (3 sts)

Row 2: ch 1, sc dec using next 2 sts, sc in next st, turn (2 st)

Row 3: ch 1, sc  dec using next 2 sts, do NOT cut yarn (1 st)

Round 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, 3 sc in each corner (this makes the ear turn up) (14 sts)

  1. with light pink yarn and a yarn needle
  2. attach ear to top sides of hat

Snout

With light pink yarn,

Round 1: ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in first sc of round (5 sts)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in first sc of round (10 sts)

Round 3: ch 1, blsc in each st around, join in first blsc of round (10 sts)

  1. with worsted weight brown yarn make 2 “x” on each side of snout
  2. tie ends brown of yarn together
  3. with light pink yarn and a yarn needle
  4. stuff scrap yarn in snout
  5. attach the snout to the front, middle of hat

Eyes

  1. with worsted weight brown yarn make 2 “x” just above snout, on each side of snout
  2. tie ends brown of yarn together

Bows (Make 2)

With 2-fine light blue yarn and D hook,

  1. Use this pattern to make the bows.
  2. attach the bow right in front of ears with a yarn needle
